I know someone that put a fresh laid clutch in a backpack, got on his motorcycle then rode 10-15 minutes to an incubator without any issues.
Ive heard of temps up to 100 where they incubate the ch in Africa. You can see in the videos of how they collect eggs, put them in a bag, and then continue hiking and looking for who knows how long... Probably a very bumpy ride.
I accidentally ripped a quarter sized hole in the top of an egg a couple weeks in. I just kept some moist moss over the hole and had no problems!
Thats crazy! Another quick fix for torn eggs is a bandaid with the white pad part moistened first

Re: Just HOW hardy are the eggs?

Ok here are a couple pics of things you may see with eggs..

~This clutch is due to hatch in 2 weeks. The small wrinkled one in the lower right is iffy. There seems to be a baby in it but I have not detected any movement from it yet.

~This clutch is due in 3 weeks. The 2 in the upper right across the top are empty infertile eggs. I was able to ward off the mold until just this week. It will not affect the eggs each of those moldy eggs are attatched to but its not pretty.

    Interesting pictures.

a quick Question to foschi, how far into incubation did the eggs start to dimple... ?

Have you come across any that even though humidity is good and the temps are right seem to dimple after the first week or two and still make it?

Only asking as i have a clutch which has started to dimple a bit... more crease then dimple id say.. all have good viens but dont know if they will make it or not

They usually dont dimple until the last few weeks but that one egg on top got bad like that within 2 weeks. Which is why Im not sure if that baby will make it of if it will be a tiny baby or what. I have the humidity at 100% and I even tried the damp paper towel thing but it was just going to dimple no matter what. Sometimes you will get a large healthy looking egg that will get one or 2 minor dimples in it. Like the egg above the badly dimpled one. There is nothing you can do about that and the baby will be ok. The babies dont actually take up much room in their egg. They have plenty of room to move around in there so a dimple or 2 wont hurt.
