I've been keeping snakes longer than most people here have been drawing air. I've kept and bred a lot, and I mean a lot, of snakes.

Never had a respiratory infection in an animal out of QT.

    Have you?

Not personally, but I know of people who have.

    Re: 2 per cage?

Dont we just LOVE these topics

All snakes should be quarantined (SP?) but after that, it does depend of species and your knowledge of the care of that snake and their temperament. I currently have 2 young BCC boas housed together in the same 2ft x 2ft cage. I will leave them together until they are big enough for their own cage. I only do this in the case of very young and well established snakes. Sure I could put them in a rack tub but these 2 are just fine where they are. They have multple hides but always choose to be together in the same one. They are seperated for feeding of course.

This is a very tricky subject. I have seen people with a ball and a boa together. I do not agree with this. My BPs are only put together for breeding purposes. I dont think different species should ever be put together. I do not believe species known for eating other snakes should be put together unless they are breeding.

I also dont think it should be done in an aquarium/tank enclosure. Only in a very stable environment where there is no chance of temp/humidity fluctuations. No chance of RI. IE, racks, enclosed reptile cages such as animal plastics, boaphile, vision etc..

In almost 20 years of snakes I have only had 2 sick snakes so I dont think thats a very good argument. One was sick when I got it. The other got sick when temporarily moved to an aquarium while awaiting a new rack. This was my own fault and he was promptly treat and relocated to a rack.

There are many things to consider.

Question: how does a snake contract a URI? They happen under a certain set of circumstances and, contrary to what you stated before, happen for a reason.

Once you answer that question - you will know why housing two healthy snakes together is not an issue.
