RI or just Hissing and other odd

I bought another normal on craigslist about a month ago. beautiful snake its about 4.5 ft i got it from craigslist. want really in best condition, apeard to be a heat rock burn on its tummy polysporned the crap outta it... clearing up real nicly. but everytime i open the cage it makes really loud hisses, no gurgleing assosiated with it, no drooling either. im a smoker and most of the time it sounds lke me when i get up i the morning, like weezing i guess. feeding is interesting to, hisses really loud and tags it a few times and jumps back. im feeding ft small rats. it shed twice in like a 2 week periodi thougt that was strange too. all in all this one is way different from my other ball

how long have u had her? as far as the shedding, shes prolly healing from the burns, i wouldnt worry too much about that. hissing and RI sound completely different. a hiss is clear and loud, u know its a hiss. but any RI sound will sound like ur snake has mucus in her mouth, nose, and throat. it will sound bubbly and she may make a popping noise when she breathes. when my girl had a really bad RI she actually sounded like a duck for day. it kinda sounds like us when we try breathing with a bunch of snot in our nose. snakes cant cough so they cant cough it up or blow there nose. so just imagine being sick and not allowed to cough or use a tissue. a vet exam is never a bad idea, after being mistreated for so long she may just need an extended amount of time to chill out and re-adjust to her proper caring she is now recieving. good luck

    Hi,

I agree it sounds more like it is still a little stressed.

The shedding will be simply part of the healing as mpkeelee said.

The strikes on the rat sound like defensive strikes rather than feeding strikes.

Since you have had to treat it for the burn would I be right in thinking it was never left alone without any interaction for a week or so to get used to its new surroundings?

Does it ever eat any of the F/T rats? Do you know what it was being fed before?

pretty sure they are just hisses then, fairly constant tho. my otherball never hisses hes just a sweetheart. no it wasnt left alone, put poly on burn everynight till its shed, aplied sporaticly now. the guy before me only had it a month. hesaid he bought it for his 8yr old son but this snake was a bit of a handful i guess. it has tagged me 3 times already since i got it. he wasnt able to get it to eat anything he said he tried mice and rats. ive gotten it to feed twce for me now on ft sm rats. but it acts so scared of them like I said. defensive strikes a few times then coils. actually almosts runs from it till its fed up enough with being bopped in the head with the rat. named it skittles as its very very skittish. stressed makes alot of sense

It's really not good if you smoke around reptiles, even secondhand smoke. It is very likely that snake has an RI because you smoke, even if you smoke outside.
