Re: Tarantula ID needed
Ca. Dusky. Very common this time of year. Probably a male since they are the roamers. The girls tend to stay in one place waiting for romance. They make good pets but generally don't live long.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?
Stinky says, "Women should be obscene but not heard." Stinky is one smart man.

Re: Tarantula ID needed
Looks like a Oklahoma Brown Tarantula, Aphonopelma hentzi to me. They are found in Oklahoma and northern Texas. I do not know if they are found in Cali or not though...
Looks like the tarantula in the first pic on this link too. Aphonopelma spp. and since they are found in California it could be that?

Throwing my hat in for Aphonopelma. In fact I am about 99.99% sure it is.
Can't say which species. Unfortunately there are still alot of undescribed species, and most of the NA representatives of that genus are extremely similar.
