I try to keep my cool end at 78 to 80 degrees.
I see no mention of a hot spot temp
generally when people list their warm side temp, its the temp of the UTH.

88 is perfectly fine for ball pythons warm side. the 90-94 we recommend is what we all know works but 88 is just as fine.

Really?
Most people tend to say the hot spot temp when quoting a belly heat temperature.
Since there is 3 temperatures to know, when a person doesn't say they are talking about the "hot spot" it generally means they are speaking of the ambient temperature.

My point was that if the snake is going under the paper towel, it might want to get more heat. That is why I suggested raising the temp.
In my opinion, 88 is too low for the hot spot.
I am pretty sure the OP is talking about the hot spot right on the UTH if I remember correctly.

I agree, especially if your trying to get the ambient temperature in the tub up to what it needs to be.
I keep my "hot spots" at about 92

88F or 90 is not that noticable of a difference. But 88 is what most breeders keep them at when using room temp and not hot spot. VPI is one that comes to mind that keeps room 88 with no hot spot. Each snake is different and not all require exactly 90-94. They thrive well in the high 80s to low 90s with a 77-80 cool side.
