    Color question

    Hello all!

Here is our foster snake-Jake. She's got this weird color on her head and a few other parts of her body, the picture isn't the best but if I had tod describe it I'd say it has a bluish tint to it. It almost looks like when you see a puddle of oil on the gound and it has that rainbowy shine to it.

Anyone have any ideas what it is? I plan to feed her tomorrow morning and take her to the vet Monday evening.

And some others just for fun.

Kind of blurry I know, but this is the only full shot I have so far.

    Thanks for looking!

    Re: Color question

That's called iridescence. It's caused by microscopic ridges on the scales reflecting light at different angles. It's not as prominent in balls as some other species such as Brazilian rainbow boas, but you'll still occasionally see it from time to time. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

    Re: Color question

Yes indeed nothing wrong with that at all. I can usually see more of it after a good shed. Well at least till the scales get a lil dull. Nice photo work keep up the great work.

Thank you both very much. When we originally picked her up I didn't notice it. After spending some time with her I did and was worried I was doing something that was causing her harm. Good deal.

    Re: Color question

It was probably the lighting you had her in. Sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can't. You can usually see iridescence better in direct sunlight than artificial lighting indoors. When I had rainbow boas they would glow a beautiful blue when I took them out in the sun.

Yup, just a cute shiny snake.
So, is that a normal? I LOVE the white speckling that is coming up the sides of her. Any chance of getting a closer, clearer body shot of her? Pleeease?

    Re: Color question

I'll try again either tonight or this weekend. I didn't want to bother her too much, since we're new to each other. Although I do have more pictures on photobucket, so I'll check to see if any of them have a closer look.

    I think she's a pretty girl

Here is the link to my photobucket, if you'd like to take a look. I'd still like to take more pictures of her this weekend, and when I do I'll try to get good shots over her all over

That white speckling is very nice! I would have a hard time giving her up if I was just fostering her!
