Best way to spot clean??
So i switched from aspen to newspaper because I thought it would be easier to spot clean and so i could scrub the glass of the tank where she pees to try and get out the smell. I am having very little success. What do you guys use to get the smell out? Or is it something im just gunna have to get used to?
Also my BP seems to poo and pee quite a lot
2/10 - poop
2/11 - poop
2/15 - pee/poop
2/19 - pee/poop
2/20 - poop
2/22 - pee
and i gave her a bath today cause she kinda stunk and she dropped a fat deuce in the bath tub
2/22 - poop
I'm feeding her a small mouse every week which she eats like its gunna be her last. Just got her month ago at a reptile convention and shes still pretty young (under 2 feet). Is it too much to give her a bath once a week? If she poops and pees in the tub, its one less i gotta pick outta her tank.
Anyways the main thing im looking for is the best method to spot clean and what to use to scrub the tank to get that nasty smell out?

Re: Best way to spot clean??
It's hard to just spot clean when you use news paper or paper towels, because everything just soaks in and spreads out. Since I use tubs and paper towel, any poo/pee is a complete substrate change. I will usually clean and disinfect with Chlorhexidine and if it still smells I will use some Healthy Habitat deodorizer on it....

Re: Best way to spot clean??
Well, I use coconut substrate which traps all the liquids. When I spot clean, I just get a big handful around the spot. I find that the coconut stops any unwanted smells. As long as you replace it about once a month, you won't get any trouble with bacteria build up or un sanitary conditions for the snakes.
I am surprised you went from aspen to paper. I was on paper first and I hated having to clean up the entire tanks every single time.
Good luck.
Oh, you might consider feeding a larger prey item. Most bps outgrow small mice very quickly.

Re: Best way to spot clean??
As already mentioned, coconut or XXL beech chips (reasonably priced, to boot!). Replace the lot once a month. You can't spot clean easily with newspaper - it just spreads.
To scrub & disinfect, a 5% bleach solution (no stronger).
Don't see a problem with bathing her once a week if she doesn't object and it doesn't stress her.
You do seem to have a BP that poo/pees a lot - mine does little for weeks on end! They're all different...

Re: Best way to spot clean??
Here's how I spot clean..
1: Pick a spot
2: Clean said spot
3: repeat steps 1-2 until desired cleanliness is achieved

Re: Best way to spot clean??
When one of my snakes soils the newspaper, I just roll it all up. Wipe with a damp paper towel, dry and lay down new paper. If it's particularly smelly, I'll dab a little vinegar on the paper towel, then wipe with a really wet paper towel to rinse that off.
You probably don't need to be bathing your snake every week. Only if she's had a bad shed or if she smells bad.
