    Feeding question

Can keeping my BP's and their food items in the same room 'desensitize' the snakes to the prey item's sent causing them to go off feed? My female is off feed right now and she seems to have started fasting shortly after i started keeping my rats in the same room. Nothing has changed husbandry wise.

    Re: Feeding question

It will probably not make them go off feed but their feeding response might be a bit lower.

You could try taking them out for a while and then trying to feed your female and see if it makes a difference?

    Re: Feeding question

I agree that it might not make her go off feed but I do think it could desensitize her to the scent cue she would normally get if the feed item wasn't close to her.

    Re: Feeding question

Ok. I'm still somewhat new to BP's (been keeping them for about 7 months now). Is it normal for them to just go off of feed? I have not changed anything husbandry wise and this is my second Ball to miss more than two meals. I guess what I am asking is...if they are fasting, does that mean there is a problem/I am doing something wrong...or do they just not want to eat?

It really depends on the age of the snake. baby bps shouldn't be going off feed at all really. In adults though, it is fairly common.

Both snakes are under a year old...one was a male though and he was near a breedable weight. The one not eating now is a 300 gram female spider. A few weeks ago she was my best eater...now she shows no interest at all. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Have you tripple checked the temps?

Have you changed the source for your rodents lately?

Has there been more activity around their enclosures or have they been handled more?

Are you sure you didn't change anything inside their enclosures like new hides or different substrate?

They have been getting handled less if anything. With the holidays, I didn't have the time to handle them much, then once she started fasting...I decided not to handle her to reduce stress.

Rodents are still coming from the same source, but I am keeping a supply of them at my house now. Maybe this is the issue?

When get home I will triple check temps and humidity, just to be sure.

My female went from a half log hide, to a reptile basics hide. She has fed several times since that change though.

    Thanks for your help.
