USARK Kill S373 Letter Campaign

S373 aka ‘The Python Ban’ has been amended to include the 9 great constrictors referenced in the recent report released by the US Geological Survey entitled Giant Constrictors: Biological and Management Profiles and an Establishment Risk Assessment for Nine Large Species of Pythons, Anacondas, and the Boa Constrictor. If passed as written S373 would add all 9 snakes to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act making it a felony to engage in the import, export and interstate transport of any of these animals.

This possibility is unacceptable to USARK and the Reptile Nation. We are encouraging everyone with an interest in S373 to click on www.Kill-S373.com and participate in the USARK Kill S373 Letter Campaign. There you will find step by step instructions, a sample letter, contact information and even an instructional video to help you write your US Senators an effective letter opposing S373. We have learned that written letters are one of the most effective ways to lobby Congress. Sending an email is NOT enough! Write your letters. Get your friends and family involved writing letters too.

USARK spearheaded a similar letter writing campaign last spring. The Reptile Nation generated 50,000 letters opposing HR669. The bill was crushed. Time to do it again! Spread the web address www.Kill-S373.com all over the internet. Put it on your facebook page. Put it on your MySpace page. Twitter it. Post it on every forum or social networking site that you frequent. Email it to everyone you know! www.Kill-S373.com will take you straight to the resources you need to do your letters. We have made it as easy as it can possibly be, but it will require some effort. January 12th is our deadline. We don’t have much time. Do it today!

We did it before lets do it again! This is really simple, I did it last time and it isn't that much effort. If we want to keep our animals we're going to HAVE to keep doing this on probably a yearly basis.

Thing is, on HR669, we all hand signed and mailed 22 envelopes to each member of the Sub Committee.

NOW, you just have to mail TWO friggin letters to your senators!!

It's even easier!

I just hope we get the same turnout as last time!

Yeah seriously. Oh, and make SURE you follow the directions on the site. I copied/pasted them here.

1. Write two hand written letters. One addressed to each of the Senators from your State regarding the negative effect S373 would have on you, your family and your business. Alternatively you can copy the sample letter below. Make sure you end up with two letters individually addressed and signed by yourself ready to go to your Senators.

2. Double check and make sure your letters are properly addressed. One to each of your two Senators. Make sure you sign your name. Include your mailing address and EMAIL address. (see list of Senators by state below. each state has two.)

3. Place both letters in a large flat mailer. Do not fold them and place them in small envelopes. All letters need to be flat. If you are helping others and have numerous letters make sure they are separated by Senator. All letters for Senator #1 in one package and Senator #2 in another package.

4. Send to our USARK representative for hand delivery to the Senate.

Again, make sure NOT to fold the letters! Best bet is to separate them into 2 stacks and then into manilla folders labeled with each senator's name. Then put each manilla folder into one of the flat USPS mailers and send it off. Seriously we should ALL be able to get at least 3-4 letters per senator at the bare minimum. Do one yourself, take copies to your parents to sign for 2 more and then a sibling/friend/co-worker/other relative etc...
