HSUS E-Mail Very Interesting
A friend of mine who is evedently on the HSUS e-mail list sent me this:
Put Animals on Obama's Agenda
Did you know that there are 18 different agencies that oversee animal welfare? That's why The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Legislative Fund are asking the Obama Administration to appoint an Animal Protection Liaison in the White House -- someone who would work with the agencies and Congress to advance animal protection policies in an ongoing and sustained way.
We have a goal of 50,000 signatures. Please sign the petition, and be sure to tell your friends, too. Thanks for all you do for animals.

Re: HSUS E-Mail Very Interesting
By the way, I guess I found this to be kind of scary. Do we really want HSUS to be involved in the appointing of an animal welfare Liasion/Czar...whatever? We all know that their definition of animal welfare is not always the same as ours. Scary times...

I wonder if this is that "Change" everyone was so excited about a few months ago..
When you've got 10,000 people trying to do the same thing, why would you want to be number 10,001? ~ Mark Cuban "for the discerning collector"

I really hate the H.S.U.S. I didn't understand what they were really all about until I owned a Pit Bull. It's a great way for some very bad people to make money hand over fist and call it animal welfare.

This is true, not a rumor. Here is the link to the actual online petition from HSUS...

The way I see it, it's not just about reptiles anymore...

Re: HSUS E-Mail Very Interesting
I agree with possibly appointing someone, but I think HSUS should have absolutely nothing to do with it and should have no influence whatsoever.
0.0.1 Normal ball python

Re: HSUS E-Mail Very Interesting
Here is the "agenda".
27) Exotic pet trade—prohibit importation and interstate commerce in exotic species for the pet trade; accelerate consideration and listing of pythons, boa constrictors, and anacondas as injurious species, barred from importation and interstate commerce for the pet trade
82) Exotic pet trade—prohibit importation and interstate commerce of wild animals for pet trade; retain FDA ban on interstate commerce in small turtles for pet trade (in place since 1975 to protect public health, in light of risk from Salmonella transmission) and increase awareness/enforcement of ban
98) Shipment of animals—prohibit shipping through the mail (where they incur high mortality rates) live reptiles, baby chicks and other birds for the pet trade, agriculture or sport
