    Feeding question

I have a question about prey items. Both of my ball pythons have ate nothing but white mice/rats their entire short lives. I went to petsmart to buy some large mice but they did not have white........only black. I know that ball pythons can be picky eaters but so far both of mine are eating well for me as I have had them for several months now. Should I stick with white prey items? I would just hate to spend $10 on mice that he would not eat.

    Re: Feeding question

Have you ever tried offering different coloured prey items? All of mine eat them ok.

    Re: Feeding question

Chances are if they are already well established on f/t they shouldn't have any problems taking different colored prey but there are exceptions to this rule I know with my experience with older bp's changes in there environment is the biggest factor in refusal of a meal.

    Re: Feeding question

I doubt that simply a change in the color of a prey item would trigger a refusal. A difference in prey type, size, live vs f/t, feeding routines, etc. - all of that might do it but everything being the same, a color change in the fur of the prey is probably not going to be any issue for your snakes.

I had this same issue when mine was about 3 months old but I bought a grey one and he ate it with no problems. Since then I didn't don't ask for white, I just ask for a rat! Buy one, try it and see!

    Re: Feeding question

My BP was on all white mice also, I was only able to get a brown mouse last feeding and he downed it with no hesitation....actually quicker than normal lol I would say go for it.
