Web domain and hosting??

So I want to get a website in the works but I'm not entirely sure on what you have to do. From the little research I've done, it looks like you buy the domain (and the domain is just a fancy name for your web address, right?) and then you have to pay for hosting?

Is that right so far?


I was wondering which site you all use to a. Purchase your domain from and b. Host your website from. And is the domain a one time purchase and the hosting is paid for yearly?

I've got many questions about this crazy thing called the Internet and definitely appreciate your help!

I can tell you if your wanting a good guy to deal with hit up Heath warren at Heath@warrenreptiles.com He registered and hosted my site for years tell him I sent ya . He does the hosting for small time reptile folks and a few others.. I never had a problem in the 3-4 years I was with him.

Yes you have to pay to register the domain and then you have to pay a yearly hosting fee..

I did all of mine through 1and1.com and I've not had any complaints. I get charged $25 every six months on my credit card.
