    heat difficulties

i jsut got my ball python(boris) today and he is in a 10 gallon tank with a small heating pad which keeps the ground temp at 80-84 degrees. now the problem i got is wen i try to put the heat lamp on top of the screen is rasies the top of his hide to upper 90s and sometimes 100-103 degrees. wich i think is too hot. is there a trick or something i can use to help the lamp maintain the right temp for his basking side?
    thanks

You could just use a dimmer that you can buy at any hardware store and it will extend the life of the bulb or just get a thermostat!

I am guessing that you are not using probe thermometers to measure temps because that UTH temps seems awfully low. Even the smallest UTHs top at 110 when not regulated (which I am assuming yours is not).

If your ambient air temp is above 75* without the lamp, then there is no need for one. The UTH will take care of the hot side of 90-94*. Just make sure you get a thermostat or else you could burn your snake.

You said top of the hide? You need to measure where the snakes belly will be because BPs do not bask.
