Is 440 grams a good size to start small rats?

I have been feeding the two of the largest mice I can get every Friday. Is he big enough to try a small rat at 440 grams?

I try and feed a prey size that is about as wide as the widest part of the snakes body.

Yeah that's a fine weight to start, assuming your small rats are the same size as the ones I get.

Sounds pretty close. I just switched my little girl over too, she just hit 500 g's. I am cutting her back to every 7 days tho, instead of 5, with the bigger prey item. Just keep an eye on him. If it's way to big he probably won't eat it. Also, if it takes him awhile to digest, you might want to cut back.

Thank's guys, The small rats may be a little bigger than his girth, but you can't even tell he has eaten after the two fat adult mice. They have some really small rats at the Petco I frequent.

Go with a small rat that weights about 60 to 70 grams!

yeah most of my small rats I can get are around 50 grams, 350g ball pythons can manage 'em just fine.

I'm in the same boat you are. We get our frozen mice from Petsmart. Our BP is around 350g, and you can't tell when 1 "large" mouse has been eaten, but 2 are noticeable. After the last 2, due to be eaten tomorrow, I'm planning on starting him on the 50g "small rat" they sell.

I think my Male BP (The biggest i have) Is probably a around that sixe 300-350 and hes taken a small rat for 2 weeks now! It looks about the same size as the biggest part of his body maybe a tad bigger but he has no problem getting it down. Its noticable when he gets it down but it doesnt look bad!
