Re: what happened
I've never had this happen before but if I was in your situation I would call up customer support at Helix.

Maybe someone will chime in with some help but if not call them up.

Re: what happened
Are you getting the 98deg reading from the thermostat or the thermometer?

Re: what happened
Do you have the probe taped to the heat tape well? Is it completely covered by tape so that its not exposed to air? Did the probe maybe become dislodged by a tub? If not change the location of the probe on the heat tape.

Re: what happened
I admit, I don't have any experience with Helix or Flexwatt. The only other thing I can think of, other than calling Customer service is double check to make sure the temperature setting didn't get changed or something...

Re: what happened
i will definitely be calling customer service because this is becoming a SERIOUS problem i just set it to the lowest setting- 65 degrees and the heat tape is 100 degrees. Thank God i was home to catch this.

Re: what happened
Is the flexwatt shelf you have the probe on plugged in?
maybe the connection between the probe and the thermostat is damaged.
