Adult Tank Size

Howdy.

So me and some friends are going to the reptile expo this weekend. Hoping to get a beardie. Well I have a 20 gallon tank and a 40 gallon tank. The 40 gallon is a 40L and the 20 is a 20L. I was thinking that since the beardies (we may get two) need more running room that we may (after proper quarantine and disinfecting) switch my BP who is in the 40L to the 20L and put the beardies in the 40L. Would an adult be ok with just a 20L? It just seems so small to me but Ive read where its recommended because they like being in small space and this can make her feel safer and all that...I just wanted some opinions.

Unless you have a female who is over 2,000 grams then you should be fine. They don't need much space as they rarely move from their hides.

She's about 400 grams now. I don't plan on breeding so I doubt she will be a huge girl or anything.

Are you sure though? It just looks so teeny compared to her. Lol

Oh yeah a 20g is fine for a 400g ball python. It may seem small but think about it. They stay in their hides 90% of their life. They aren't on the prowl.

A small space is way more suitable for them than a enormous space.

Well I guess I have to look at it this way too: their heads might be small but they can eat something big. Lol

I'm thinking that Im going to disinfect everything and switch her over to the smaller tank either later today or tomorrow. I should leave her in it for about a week or two before handling, right? Just like when I brought her home?

Just remember that beardies shouldn't be kept together, otherwise you might end up with dead and/or mutilated beardie(s)

Yeah I would leave her be for a week just so she has a nice smooth transition. If you set up the tank similarly, use the same hides, she should be fine

I think you meant this for my other thread? But thanks for the tip.

Most of the stuff will be the same. I am buying new hides that are smaller because I think hers now are too big. I have a huge tree thing she climbs that I'm taking out because it won't fit in the new tank, but seeing as they dont normally climb im not too worried about it. But otherwise, it'll be the same. I have to now take the UTH off and change it to the new one though, thats going to be a pain.

400g bp will be fine, even better in a 20l compared to a 40l (for awhile depending on how long it gets)I've got 700+gs in twenties still. And 400g is far from adult.
