    Claude progression thread...
Introducing Claude, the albino pastel spider. According to the prior owner, he us about a year and a half old, so I'm going with 2017 for hatch year. He's named after the yellow scaredy cat from Looney Tunes due to his very skittish behavior so far... decidedly reminded me of the jumpy cartoon cat. I picked him up on 3/2/19 with Penelope from a local guy getting out of bps.

I have held him a minimal amount, just when I was buying him and getting him settled that first day. Then again this past weekend to check him over and snap a few pictures. He shows no wobble when moving around in his tub, but stayed mostly balled up when handling. For the bit of crawling through my hands that he did, no really odd movements either. I plan to start his handling like I would a new hatchling, short sessions of 5-10 minutes, just enough for him to know I won't eat him. [emoji4]

He's a great feeder, eating a weanling rat on 3/5 and again tonight. No hesitation or problem when striking. He seems a bit thin to me, and the prior owner said he was feeding on mice, which is small for a snake his size. That said, he had no issue switching to rats. He was supposedly fed both live and f/t as well as poultry. I'm afraid his diet will be plainer here, just f/t rats. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...84917c3cfb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3027a67d8e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...07a9a44d62.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...60520c92db.jpg

Thanks! I tried to resist when I saw the pictures of the pair for sale, but resistance was futile. :D I am weak for the yellow or cream colors. I had been bouncing names around but couldn’t find one that fit. He did not fit the more masculine names of recent book characters or the Greek/Roman gods I occasionally use. I was talking with a friend about him, saying I hadn’t named him yet and about how skittish he was. Claude Cat popped into my head, and the character was also yellow. Done deal.

Nice addition. You know I am sucker for the albinos (and Shayna is an Albino Spider).

Love his richness; his colors are deep.

I really hadn’t planned to add two more, but he was so nice looking and the price for the pair was a steal. Plus I really like the lessers, butters, and mojaves...have two out of three now. Claude’s color is closer to the paler photos, but not quite that pale...dang phone just didn’t quite catch it right.

I have to admit I thought of Shayna when I saw his picture the first time. ;)

Name is a perfect match. I did the classic “noobie” move and went with ‘Monty’. Will be (hopefully) picking up our #2 on April 7th at the local expo. Hope to be a bit more creative with this one. lol

    Awwww, that's sweet.

Shayna is a great girl. I hope Claude rocks out too.

I was confused by the pictures, but either way, he looks awesome. Shayna is the same way. Depending on light she can look faded or bright and rich.

Nothing wrong with noobie names, they still work. :D My first boa was Sir Hiss, from Disney’s Robin Hood.

I currently have 17 snakes, but at one time I had 42 when I was breeding my boas and corns. You run out of names quick, and mine are all pets first so they all had to have names. So far I’ve only reused Loki...it just really fit both snakes and I haven’t had the first Loki for many years.

I think Claude will eventually settle down. I suspect he was handled very little, which is why I’m taking it extra slow.

The pictures are confusing. Some of the ones of Penelope are the same, she’s closer to the lighter photos, but not exactly. But I’m not complaining too much...they’re pretty good for cell phone pictures under the swirly florescent bulbs.

Claude is on empty after two feedings with me and sporting a new paint job...almost perfect shed, two little donuts like a lady's discarded stockings. He's still very skittish when you first open his tub, and very jumpy when you first touch him. I only held him for 5-10 minutes tonight, but he settled down pretty quickly and started exploring. He has a very busy tongue, almost non-stop flickering and repeatedly "licking" my arm, wrist, and hand. Several times he just stopped and kept just the tip of his tongue on my skin. Quirky little guy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...440f6ef8db.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1983e8b901.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...213af7dbed.jpg
