!boa bonanza!
Well, we’ve got the Morelia Madness thread for all things Morelia... figured we needed an outlet for all things Boa as well. Pictures, discussion on husbandry, natural history, etc.
I’ll kick things off with the two representatives of the Genus in my snake room. Boa constrictor (Pokigron Suriname True Red-Tail) and Boa constrictor occidentalis (Argentine Boa).

More so than I even expected. I guided both of them into their highest ones to be sure they found them (also have them mounted under the shelves) and they’re both using them almost daily. Neither have found or used the under-shelf sky hides though. I’ll move those to upcoming Morelia enclosures if they continue going unused.
The Argentine has been spending all daylight hours in hers and the suri tends to spend daylight hours on the floor buried in his bedding, but has been out exploring the canopy offerings at night more than he had in the previous enclosure. Probably partially attributable to new scents and enrichment options, but I’ll have to closely observe and see if I can detect any new behavioral patterns that correspond with changes in his environment.

If you are into boas, one thing to pick up on is the differences in head and body shape. Sniper has a head in between a Colombian BCI (BI) and a BCC (BC) with a taller loaf body than the typical Colombian so he's a little of each which is what the locale is said to be. "A natural cross", according to Russo's book.
However I see a lot of differences between JM's two boas here. Both head and body shapes are distinct and will become more-so with age.

Some of the locality boas are very different in body shape and head shape, some have awsome head spears and other like the bc have the eyebrow markings too, thats one ofthe awsome things I like about boas and the reason I keep both locality boas and morph boas, each bring there own unique things to the table

Good topic on the body and head shapes, Gio.
My two Boas are remarkably different that regard.
The Suriname boy, Leonard Eugene, is taller than he is wide and the extremely rectangular in cross section. His head is very flat, spear shaped, and fairly elongated. Being a male he’s also fairly lean in build and will not be pressed for monster size here.
The Argentine Boa, Mirabelle Rose, is very very round in cross section and has a much beefier head shape and musculature. If you look closely in pictures you can see that her right side of her top lip also is a bit higher than the left. Always been like that.
Being female she is noticeably heavier built than the suri as well. She also will not be pressed for gigantic size, but does have that potential in her genetics. In Bob Guerriere’s words, “her mother’s mother is a monster”. Like 9-10’ and 40-50lb range. Should she attain such a size, the two cages I shared pictures of in the first post can have the center removed and become one enormous 8x2.5x2’ enclosure. That’s years and years down the road if ever.
