Question on corn snake feeding

Ok, the internets is driving me crazy so much mixed info....

I have a Corn snake I adopted about a year ago.... can't tell you the weight offhand, (at work now). Pretty sure its a male, about 4 1/2' or so long,

Was supposed to have been about 2 years old when I adopted him, so almost 3 years now.

what should I be feeding him, The caresheet on this site says once a week, I've been told every other week is preferable.

I have been feed him once a week, and "adult mouse" in the 20-25 gram size. Is this correct? Too much, too little, space out the feeding to every

other week?

Any input appreciated.

Do you put your snake through brumation at all? I think an adult mouse once a week sounds good. That's what I like mine to eat normally.

No I do not put him thru brumation at all (I guess this is not harmful?)

I feed my adult corn snakes about every 10 days, & one adult mouse would be appropriate. Will they take more? Sure, but they're supposed to be slender, not like BPs.

It's OK to feed a little more in warm months when their metabolism is running higher, & a little less (every 2 weeks) in cold months when they're less active. I do not
follow a precise feeding schedule, & there's no such thing for wild snakes either. At 4.5', I suspect "he?" is older than 3 years, btw. Remember that corn snakes hatch
out about 10" long, & can only eat pinkies for months...they don't grow much their first year. Avoid feeding jumbo mice even to the largest adult corn snake- they're too
fatty.

IMO too many care sheets try to make meals fit the human calendar, since many ppl have jobs & like to take care of feeding pets on their weekend...that isn't
really the best for the snakes. I have to wonder what year this care sheet was provided? Sounds like it needs an update. :confusd:

The only reason I do is to breed. I just pulled mine of brumation so they are being fed every 3 days a mouse as I know soon enough they will stop eating. But otherwise, after breeding is over I do one a week personally.

Pet corn snakes not intended for breeding do not need to brumate, & doing so can cause problems. When snakes are cooled down, so is their immune system, so if they
have ANY sort of 'thing' going on, they can succumb to that while in brumation, & either come out of it sick or die while in brumation. It's not risk-free, & they may also
refuse food for a while thereafter, because (as with many snakes following brumation) they're looking to breed first, way more than to eat.

I do about the same as bogertophis. My adult males will get a small mouse once a week or medium mouse every 2 weeks depending on their body condition. I also tend to skip weeks they are in blue and will feed on random days..

I usually skip feeding my corns if they're in blue also, even though some will take food anyway. And I agree, feeding does not need to be "exact"...if you have a snake
that's had trouble gaining weight, feed a little more...but usually it's the opposite problem, "more appetite than actual food needed". Corn snakes make great pets in
part because they're so easy to get along with...they usually have a great appetite & take f/t prey easily, & on top of that, they're quite pretty.
