Ok my first question is, will a 30 gallon regular fish aquarium be a suitable was to house a BP (with a screen top and locking clips of course)? If your answer is yes my next question would be: What is the best way to clean a tank before I put my snake in it?

Yes, a 30 gallon aquarium will work. You may have a hard time keeping heat and humidity levels adjusted properly, but it can usually be done by covering 1/2 to 3/4 of the screen top.
A weak bleach solution works well for cleaning. Be sure to rinse out well, and air it out before you put your critter inside.
Welcome, by the way, to the site, and the hobby!

If you're considering a 30 gallon tank, you may also want to consider using a Rubbermaid container, or for a little more $$, a Vision or Animal Plastics (or Barr's or Boaphile) cage of the same dimensions - you'll have a much easier time regulating your snake's environment in something that doesn't have a screen top. Things like this are good to think about prior to purchasing an enclosure can save you quite a bit of $$ in the long run. If you purchase a cage that doesn't require a lot of modification to properly maintain the correct environment, chances are you won't have to spend money on accessories to make up for any heat or humidity loss that you may encounter with an aquarium. Also, the plastic herp cages are typically much lighter, practically unbreakable and made with a herp in mind.

    Just food for thought...

Thanks for the sugestion. We are wanting to use the 30 gallong tank because we already have it. It has been housing my son's fish but we no longer need such a larger tank for them. We will be going back down to a small 5 gallon tank for the fish to help Logan learn how to feed the fish and things. He is too little to reach the big tank. :)

For 125.00 you can get an awsome precision cage. Just bought one myself. Great cages.

Tanks are bad for humidity and heat, they loose it too easily. Depending on the size of the snake the cage may become too small.

I have my bp's in a 40 gallon breeder tank... I have not had any problems maintaining my heat and humidity levels since I got it set up, it took a little trial and error..and not a whole lot of time. All I did was cover my screen top with some plastic sheeting...the middle 1/3 anyhow... to not lose all my humidity. I think it is personal preferance and what you can afford to do... there is not any right or wrong way either way you choose to do it, as long as your temps and humidity are maintained.
