Pinky Pumps

I remember a while back I ran across some cool devices called a pinky pump. For those of you who do not know what these are let me explain.

If you have a non feeding snake, and want to get it eat you can use these. You basically get a massive syringe and jab it into a pinkie or mouse. Then suck it's guts out. Then you put it down the snake's throat and inject all that yummy gus into their stomach.

Is this ok to use for a 38 inch bp? He'd need a rather big one to fill him up, where can I get these?

I don't think it's usefull for a BP. It's too small.
But I didn't know you had a BP who won't eat?!

Yeah, Monty went off feed since his last rat on August 19th. He won't touch anything now. Those pinkie pumps won't do, I guess I need to force feed if he won't eat. I'm thawing a rat, lets hope it doesn't come to that.

Force-feeding should be a very very very last thing to do!
Don't forget it's the time of the year for BP to go off feed. So don't worry. If he isn't loosing weight seriously don't start on force-feeding!!! Force-feeding can only make things worse so never do that till it's really necessary.

What's the temperature and humidity in his cage? Day and night? Have you recently had a stool-sample checked by a vet?

Don't force feed - since ball pythons are notorious for going off feed, this doesn't sound out of the norm. Is Monty still in good shape? Is he losing weight rapidly? DON'T FORCE FEED unless the snake is obviously deteriorating and it is an emergency situation. Give him time - he'll turn back on.

I'm not going to force feed yet. I'm not even sure he took the f/t rat. I just woke up, it might still be in the cage. He's not lost any noticeable weight, but hes showing a bit of thinning ecause of his spine. If he hasn't eat by next month I'll help him with a few fuzzies.

would feeding a live rodent help with a snake that had been feeding on f/t or pre-killed and stopped eating?

Maybe, havn't tried live yet.

First try everything there is to try before force-feeding or assistant feeding! As long as he isn't loosing weight heavily you don't need to worry.

So try live prey, smaller prey, braining, etc. And don't try to get him to eat too often. Once or twice a week is more than enough.
