I've noticed that Shaggy is beginning to slough off patches of skin. How long does it usually take for them to shed? Is there anything in particular I should do to help?

Beardies and most lizards don't shed in one piece like snakes do. When mine is in shed, I give him a lukewarm bath in shallow water so that the skin on his toes comes off easily. They also appreciate a good misting once or twice a day when in shed.

Thanks David. I'll try the bath tomorrow. :)
I know they don't shed all in one piece...so how long does it usually take once it starts?

It usually takes a couple of days at the most. :D

Glad it has helped someone else! We're definitely both learning together!

Yeah judy you and david have helped me out alot with my eardie. You can only learn so much from books its good to hear other peoples opinions about them. And I always said I am just a snake guy never lizards. But the grow on you so fast. I would be lost without gizmo.

I was the same way....very interested in snakes, and only marginally interested in other herps. But the beardies caught my attention and after a great deal of thought to be sure I was ready to take care of something more demanding than one little snake...I have now totally fallen for the little bugger! And look forward to someday keeping a variety of wonderful herps besides just snakes. (Which are still my "first love" in the herp world!)
