    Spain banning ball pythons!
Hi: It's been forever since I posted on BP. net since I'm bad at small talk

Just want to give reptile keepers heads up that Spain has summarily banned
ball pythons without any chance for comment. In the same bill they banned savannah, monitors, a kind of turtle and pot bellied pigs. What goes around comes around.

The link is to a Kevin McCurly video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwJUUoVYzus

There is a Change petition. not much but a start.

That's pretty shocking on the part of Spain...that's a government that doesn't listen to their (educated) citizens. :confusd: Hope this can be stopped.

    Re: Spain banning ball pythons!
Are there any established breeding populations of invasive ball pythons? I’ve never heard of any such thing. Of course there are other species of invasive pythons that have become established. Although if they’re already established does banning them really do anything? The problem is already there and the pet trade isn’t going to make it any worse. I think it would be better if they required people to register or tag potential invasive species. I feel if someone had to register their new pet it would scare off the ill prepared resulting in less people releasing pets into the wild. This makes more sense for other species though. I have a hard time believing that ball pythons are an ecological threat, mostly due to the lack of established invasive populations. If anyone knows of any I’d love a link to the research/story.

Sorry to hear of this. :(

I sure hope our friends in Spain can turn this around.
