I was using the slide dimmer like the one above from Lowes and it works great. Only thing is if your room temperature changes you have to adjust the dimmer accordingly. I just built a thermostat using a micro computer called STC-1000, you can buy it for around $26.

"(you want me to spend HOW much money on a $20.00 snake??? ARE YOU NUTS???)" i think its hilarious that people would be upset after finding out they have to spend a decent amount of money to keep a snake or any animal for that reason. a life is still a life imo and just because you spend x amount of money on the animal shouldn't doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the best care possible. In any case if the best care possible cant be attained than maybe said person should hold of before getting an animal as a pet/family member. I've been wanting a ball python for a least a year now and because, financially, i cant afford to get a good thermostat all I've been doing is slowly getting more knowledgeable about bps and appreciating the species more. people should be more willing to spend money if they're going to get a pet. just my 2 cents and in no way meant to offend anyone who's taken a cheaper route. Hey, if done right then why not, right?
