Question about Shipping Supplies

Hi guys, I have never shipped before and I need to reduce my collection, so i plan on selling some of my bps. I plan on using ship your reptiles, and i was about to order shipping supplies from them and although the kits themselves aren't very expensive, when shipping costs 8.50$ for each box it really adds up, especially because I plan on ordering many boxes. I saw shipping kits on LLL reptile, and I wanted to know if they would be okay to use (if they had sufficent insulation and everything I need) and i also wanted to know if anyone has used their shipping kits before. Does it have everything I need? And also does SYR allow you to use shipping kits you didn't buy from them?

Looking at SYR's site again, I realized that I could just order the contents of the sipping kit separately. If i order 12x9x6 boxes, 12x16 cloth reptile bags, and 8oz cold packs like the kit comes with, would that be sufficient for shipping ball pythons? I would prefer to do it this way over ordering from LLL reptile or ordering kits from SYR.

12x9x6 is what I use for hatchling larger animals get larger boxes 15x11x7 and 16x16x8

As for snake bags I use 8X12 for hatchlings and 12x20 for sub-adult and adults.

As far as ball pythons go, what size would you guys say is good for ones 600-900, 1500g, and 2000g?
Should I use the 15x11x7 for all of them? (Eaiser because i can buy them in bulk) or get the 12x9x6 for the smaller guys?

Would 15x11x7 would be too big for the 600-800 gram bps? Would it be okay if i put a 600-800g bp in the 15x11x7 if i stuff it with some newspaper so the bp doesnt rattel around? Because different size boxes make it difficult to buy in bulk so id rather just get a box that will fit all of the sizes of my snakes. (Smallest one i want to ship is about 650g)

The 12x9x6 box is the most popular size for shipping, but the 15x11x7 is also handy.

Keep in mind that the smaller the box, the less expensive it will be to ship. You don't want to get all 15x11x7 boxes just because you have a couple of larger animals, as it will make the rest of your 600-800 gram shipments more expensive.

You don't have to use SYR supplies, but your supplies do have to meet our Shipping Standards. That includes a like new box with at least 3/4" insulation and temperature considerations for heat pack and cold pack use.

A shipping kit is a complete package for a one-off shipment. If you want to build up a stock of supplies, that is not the way to go : )

You can order in larger quantities, and order each item separately- insulated boxes, bags/delis, heat packs, cold packs, etc.

Before SYR we did build our own boxes using insulation from Home Depot. We used the thick white insulation board, 1.5" thick, and cut it to fit our boxes. Works great, but it is a bunch of extra work and time. The 1.5" insulation is great for cold winter shipping though, for sure. You can also double up the 3/4" insulation for better cold resistance if you like during winter shipping (or summer for that matter).

I get boxes from work and cut all myself.... even with free boxes I do not feel this has been worth the work even though I still do it. I would definitely recommend ordering boxes because the time and money spent doing your own adds up.
The small boxes will work for babies in good temps when you won't need a heat pad, but if you are new to shipping I recommend avoiding them for if you have to use a heat pad and what not the temps can be a little different than the medium boxes. I haven't had a problem with this in my shipments, but have received shipments where this was a problem. If you want to try it, it will save money, otherwise get the medium sizes like referenced above.
Do not skimp on the thickness of the insulation. I have seen this be a problem too and it is usually because of cost or not being able to find the right thinkness. UPS stores often have styrofoam, home depot has styrofoam and pink insulation foam, and there is the internet, so go the extra mile if you can't find the right insulation on the first trip out......
... I mention the insulation to get to this point: you mention medium size snakes there. The insulation will take up a bit of space. Just be sure you get the right size boxes with this in mind.
