Ambient temperature for corn snake

My sons little cremesicle corn snake is currently in his room ( he's basically an ornamental piece in that room since I care for him) in a 20 gallon tall tank. He's getting bigger and I have a 20 gallon long for him, the only issue is there's no space in my son's room for that size tank. So my next thought is to put him and the bigger tank into my actual snake room but the ambient temperature in there is 80 degrees and I'm not sure if that will be too warm for him as a "cool" side of the tank? Any advice is more than welcome and appreciated!

That 80* is pretty warm for a corn snake full time- they survive it in summer* (about 3 months) here just fine- that's where I set my A/C to come on, but in winter my thermostat (house) is set to 70* & they spend most of their time everywhere except where the UTH is in one corner under their tanks. They'll use the UTH for digesting, but overall they seem happier at about 72-75*. (*in summer, their UTH is off, btw)

Hot spot of 82-84F is perfect for them and the rest of the tank can be room temp down to 70F or so.

Having said that, I keep my corns with an 82-84F hot side (keep in mind I keep them in 4X2' boaphiles so there is plenty of room and plenty of gradient), 78F ambient, and 76F cool side. If it gets much more than 80 ambient in there, they get uncomfortable and start looking for cooler ground.

The 82F is important because that's about the minimum they need to digest well. Over 85-86F and they will probably avoid the hot spot.

Having said all that, I know people who keep corns at 78-82F all the time - a much smaller range.

You could try 80 ambient and an 82-84F hot spot and see how he does. My guess is he won't like it too much.

I don't want to chance anything happening to him. He'll still get his tank upgrade for more floor space but I'll just find a different spot in the home for him. Time to do some rearranging!

I like to give all my snakes, especially colubrids, access to cooler temps in the low-mid 70s.
