Cage size for different species

Hi All, I have three Boas and 3 cornsnakes, 2 hondurans. I was wondering if an ARS -9706 rack system which is designed for very large snakes would work for the corns and hondurans. I want the rack for my larger snakes but it would be nice to utilize all the tubs in the rack. I hear large spaces are good for corns due to their activity level but is there a "too big" issue.

I am drooling over this rack and needed some advise. I currently have all AP Cages 4 footers and 3 footers which I could continue to keep the smaller species in but would prefer to utilize the whole rack should I be able to afford this monster of a rack.

Your thoughts.

Could you use a smaller tub within the rack? I don’t have a rack system yet so it’s just an idea.

I was just doing more research into ARS racks and I believe you can customize what size tubs go on each level. I hope this is the case - that would solve all my problems. I will have to contact them.

I never have understood the "too big tub" thing. Too big enclosure to correctly regulate temp&humidity, sure. Too big to eliminate small gaps hatchlings can escape through, ok. But they have a natural home range size of at least a few thousand square meters, no tub is "too big" if you provide appropriate close-contact hides and enrichment.

I'm with you. :gj: I can understand the concept for BP's that prefer to hide & hunt by ambush, but corn & rat snakes (along with many other kinds) are not lazy loafers,
they like to explore & will do so given the opportunity. Climbing on branches is both appealing for them & helps their development, for the same reason that human kids
crawl around & experience their world. Physical skill development translates to better brain function...fitness affects the whole creature, no matter what kind. Enriching
their enclosures with things to explore & climb is a major plus.

True but for space efficiency it would make more sense to put say two tubs on one level for the smaller species. That way you’re maximizing your space while providing adequate space. Idk that’s what I’d do, gives you room to get more individuals if you desire. If not then there’s no harm in going all out and giving them a large space. I’m pretty certain you can just put different sized tubs on a given level.

They are pretty expensive so I am just drooling over the rack as of right now. I have perfectly good cages but I really like these racks.

You could also get garage shelving if you already have nice enclosures to save space. I did that for the majority of my enclosures and it helped tremendously as my apartment is tiny haha If there’s no rush I’d take some time to plan and budget everything out.
