Awesome new snake! I love MBK's & you're sure making me miss the pair I had. Mine were ferocious for mice OR weaned rats, no matter what, they're
beautiful eating machines! Mine were good to handle too, perfect pets that stay a nice size. Great choice!

Kings can do just fine on mice their entire lives but I think they bulk up more on rats.

Thank you for the advice. I was planning to try both. Between this guy and the black tail cribo I have coming I was thinking of ordering some chicks or something like that as well to give them a variety sine they seem to be living garbage disposals... literally

Thank you! I appreciate it. He sure is a cool fella. Time to let him settle and get a meal or two in and make sure he’s comfy. I guess if the temps are off he will let me know because he seems obsessed with the gauge lol nosing it around.

Thanks! For whatever reason my acquisitions always seem to have some story or another. It’s hard to turn down cool animals when they come packed with some memorable moments that’s for sure !

Thank you! From what I’ve read heard and watched they sure seem to be beasts come food time but rather chill and curious when not in that mode. He sure seems to fit the bill so far and I’m loving his hefty size.

Maybe it’s time for you to acquire another one or two ;)!!!

As far as whether to feed mice or rats, with Kings, I've always fed mice, but Django gets a very occasional rat (refusal from BP or Borneo) as long as it's a really small "small".
As adults I feed prey items that are the same size or a touch larger than their bodies girth every 7-10 days. Django has been on that diet since I got him 2 years ago and is still growing slowly but consistently.

Thank you I will keep that in mind as I start to size up some food items for him. Do their jaws not expand as far as other snakes? I know many Colubrids this is the case. He is rather thick but I’m sure he still has some growing to do and I just want to make sure that he is healthy and happy so I’m going to take it slow with him at first and observe his patterns

Thank you very much! I am enjoying it as well! Thanks to the generous donation from brother Dave I was able to acquire such a very nice enclosure. I seem to get pretty lucky locally when looking for wood and branches and have had nice luck finding good pieces that work well for my enclosures. I love the fake plants that have that soft real feel to them and I kind of gave each of my enclosures a wrap around the outside with those in the snake seem to love to find hiding spaces in them and crawl throughout them. He seems to have discovered both the warm hearted and the cool hide and he’s doing a little borrowing here or there through the substrate and through the plants I know he’s exploring now because it’s new and he is settling in but I have also heard that king snakes like to wander about and utilize their enclosure so I look forward to that
