    What's your fav grunge band?
ok yesterday April 4th was Seattle Rock Day and 24 years ago today April 5th, Kurt Cobain left this mortal coil. also his daughter Frances Bean Cobain just posted some music: https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news...D=ansmsnnews11 we have lost many more artists and bands since.

were u into grunge music? did u see any of these bands live? i've seen Chris Cornell solo once and 3 times w/ Audioslave (not grunge) and Pearl Jam once. i was too young and never saw them during the grunge hey day of the 90's tho. i still remember the sadness of the city when we lost Kurt tho and my mom still remembers him and his striped sweater from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Lol. one of my friends still worship Kurt and his music.

i'm leaving out a few and only including 1 non-Seattle Band (Stone Temple Pilots). wasn't sure about including The Gits (more punk; RIP Mia) and Mother Love Bone (too glam). i'm including soem super groups tho (Mad Season and Temple of the Dog).

anyway which was your fav or fav's?

Edit: sorry, not including Jimi Hendrix for obvious reasons but wanted to acknowledge him anyway!

I love all those bands but being a teen in the 90s, Nirvana was my fav.

From the list above, I saw in concert: Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains

The Nirvana show was a New Years Show, opened by (this might be cencored?) Butthole Surfers and MC'd by Bobcat Goldthwait who wore a diaper like a new years baby, it was amazing. Oakland Coliseum in 1993 just 4 months before Kurt died.
I'm really glad I got to see them before he was gone.

I went to see Janes Addiction but got sick in line and had to leave which was a bummer, another of my favorites.

I was coming of age in the 90s, so these bands wrote the soundtrack of my youth. It's funny because if I were to pick a favorite today, it would probably be different than my favorite at the time. But only barely.

Gotta say Pearl Jam. And my family is all aware I would shove each and every one of them in front of a bus if Eddie Vedder told me he wanted me. They understand.

(heart bleeds nearly equally for Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Screaming Trees...)

ETA: I remember standing in a Sun Coast record store when Kurt's death was announced on the news. Employees were crying, I was in shock. It was 2 weeks before my 16th birthday.

ahh yeah, beautiful song, hard to listen to for me (won't go into it) but that is a beautiful haunting song.

AX01 - being in Seattle and asking about this, you've probably seen Singles?
silly goofy movie from the early 90s, so grungy, great cameos:

i've seen Jane's Addiction twice. i would consider them more psych or funk tho. i bumped into Perry Farrell's wife once at Lalapalooza (she was a Lala girl, one of the backup dancers).

#ProtectEddieVedder was a hashtag last year when we lost Chris Cornell. Cool Fact: my sister had one of Pearl Jam's lead guitarist Mike McCready's kids in her class; she taught in a wealthy private school. she got me a holiday card from him one year!

This is too hard!!! I was a grunge fan through and through, still listen to a lot, and have been on a kick since Chris Cornell passed.

For the sake of choosing one I would have to go with Alice in Chains. I went out and bought their album the day I heard "Man in the Box" on the radio for the first time.
I loved everything they put out and Layne Staley is right up there for favorite rock star ever. However, Chris Cornell might be my favorite pure vocalist ever (Roy Orbison is right up there, random In this conversation, huh?) I have Layne's lyric "If I can't be my own I'd feel better dead" from Nutshell tattooed on my ribcage and a tattoo I designed inspired by the AIC Sun logo on my leg.

The Mother Love Bone album is one of the most underrated albums of all time in my opinion. If Andy Wood hadn't died they may have changed rock music before Nirvana, PJ, AIC and Soundgarden broke out. Heck, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden may not even exist had he not died. The Temple of the Dog album was a great tribute album and the first time most of the world heard Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder's voices.

It's sad to think about, but I'm pretty sure PJ is the only band listed who has no members that have died. I'm not sure on Screaming Trees though (Dollar Bill is an all time favorite track).

I'm usually dubious of most charities, but I think I donated money to that. But seriously, 90s front men (and women, sweet Dolores...) drop like flies.
