Stunning Dahlias

Many years ago when I was in college I worked one summer in a commercial greenhouse- it was fun & eye-opening (beautiful plants) but nothing at all like the
artistry that Richard gets to do. I have a florist-friend who worked landscaping for years, but it sure did take a toll on her body...there's a down-side to this sort
of work, & for sure you don't want to be on the "bottom rung" for long, but there is something so life-affirming to work with beautiful living things, be they plants
or animals, & to create beauty in the arrangements.

Well on Saturday after a hard week ... they had us moving about a hundred railway sleepers from the truck at the front to the back garden .. the trek was uphill .. cold , wet and windy and the flamin sleepers were soaked in oil ..

Landscaping is a killer that's for sure, that's why after I did my 4 years at college I started working my way up the garden centre route, doing the buying and floral displays, it's a lot of fun, even countless trips to Holland every two weeks to buy houseplants and Italy in the spring for 3 days a time, buying specamin plants, such fun and the food and drink all paid for, such fun times
Garden centres have come on a lot in the uk and are big business we're a medium centre at nearly £ 7 million a year , but a fair few of our larger centres take well over £10mill, we're pretty much a destination centres with fantastic restaurants, plants, garden furniture and of course Christmas is a massive thing for us.
There's a lot worse jobs out there that's for sure, we've been planning Christmas for the past few weeks, and already making props for this year's themes, we normally start mid September as it takes a fair while to set up

Them sleepers are a ridiculous weight I've moved many over the years and trying to get that tar an years of railway diesal of your your hands is tough enough in it self

I had to look up "railway sleeper"....over here we call 'em railroad ties, or crossties. Many used in gardening but what a horrible job to haul them around! :O

Those are amazing, I wish I did not have a black thumb :rolleyes:
