Had to snap a pic since she was just hanging out. Anyone else keep BCO? I'd love to see some adults. The one down side to boas for me is they grow slower than my colubrids and pythons. Life has a way of teaching us the lessons we need to learn. Patience is definitely one of mine. I'm looking forward to seeing all my little critters grow.

She really blends in on that. I'd happily wait for her "slow growth", she's worth it.

Part of me wishes she would stay the granite like color she is now but I love how dark they can get as adults.

Yeah I agree. Grey, and grey black snakes are my favorite colors. I’m disappointed that the anery and axanthics loose those colors with age.

Hey y'all. I'll admit my enclosures could use some interior decorations but I'm not very good with stuff like that. How would you all add branches to a tub or tank?

That’s a great picture, as far as decorations I’m a paper towel guy myself. For now he seems to have all he needs. Again, congratulations.

    What are the dimensions?

In my 18x18x18 Exo-Terra I have a vaguely "L" shaped piece of grapevine that goes from one diagonal corner to the other (front/right/bottom to rear/left/top). In a 48" long fishtank enclosure I bought a shower rod to be a climbing branch that goes all the way across.

Since a tank/tub is low friction you either need something that can stand up (so it has to have one side with a base) or it has to go diagonal so the sides of the tank prop it up.

For baby snakes you could whip up a nice little play-gym out of plastic tinker toys. I've seen people do PVC climbing gyms for bigger snakes, this is just the miniature version of that.

She took a poop so I took a pic. This girl was eating live at the breeder's place but it's all f/t at Casa de Ziggy. Gonna try feeding her this weekend.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait. Those are the things I keep telling myself while I wait for this one to calm down and eat. She's not very friendly when I first open her tub and likes to greet me with a hiss. I picked her up for a few minutes then put her back after she calmed down. Will try feeding her again this weekend. Fingers crossed. If she refuses f/t again I'll give her a live feeder next week.

I hope she eats this weekend and you can begin more gentle handling soon and start building trust.

Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Boom! First f/t hopper down the hatch. She hissed and struck defensively when I dangled the mouse from the tongs so I left it. Came back an hour later, the hopper was gone and the snake was in her warm hide. I love it when a good plan comes together. 😀

Really glad she ate for you, my male Bcl would only drop feed in the dark for about a year but as long as he was eating I was glad, but this last 3months he’s turned into a pig proper strikes and coils like a mad man

I was off work today and guess who was just hanging out in her tub. I tried to resist picking her up but the temptation was just too much. I had to test the waters. I gave her a quick rub with the hook and swooped her up. She gave half a hiss but calmed down almost immediately. I walked around the house with her for a few minutes before putting her back. I'm sure that with a little more time, patience and food we're going to be just fine.

It sucks when cool posts like this get pushed off the front page.

She's doing great JMC. She's right at 200g and eating small mice but I think she'll be ready for rat weaners soon. Glad to see someone else keeping BO. They're very underrated and underrepresented in the hobby if you ask me. Your girl is a real gem. I'm looking forward to watching both our critters grow. Xena started off pretty hissy too but she grew out of it really fast. A few good meals goes a long way.

Good to hear Ziggy! She was born early summer 2018 right? My girl isn’t too far behind Xena then. I think she was eating small mice at Bob’s place but he said she’d be fine on the hoppers I’ve got until I make a feeder order.
Haven’t handled my gal yet aside from unboxing, but how long did Xena take to chill out? I’m planning to get bit a lot getting her used to handling but she’s so cute I don’t think I could even be mad about it hahah

You're right JM. Xena was born on June 16, 2018. I was feeding her 1-2 hoppers every 7-14 days until I got a new feeder order in. The small mice aren't much larger. It only took Xena about a month or two before she totally stopped with the hissing. Even with all the hissy fits she never tried to bite me defensively. The one time I did get tagged was when my 9 y/o son dropped the mouse from the tongs when feeding her. Instead of leaving the hopper on the enclosure floor for her to find I tried picking it up to offer again and that's when she got me. :snake:

Haven't we all done that at least once? [face-palm] Doesn't take too long to train us though. ;)

Awesome boas, pretty hard to be mad at them, feisty or not.

    Fabulous snake.
As adults, Occidentalis have a confidence that is unmatched byany boa constrictors I’ve observed.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy that real cool boa.
