Updated baby horses, 9 months old.
I went out to the farm last week to play with the horses because we had some nice weather roll through. I've been regularly putting the bridles and saddles on the babies, but last week was the first time I ran them around in the round pen. I only ran Tora, the buckskin with all the get up because I ended up getting nailed in the stomach and slammed into the fence. I was hurting too bad to run the palomino around with all the gear :( I couldn't blame her though, it's still all pretty new for her. I'm just trying to make it easy for me when I have to break her next year.

Any pointers anyone has would be very welcome! I am having some issues of them throwing their butts at me whenever they don't like something. I'm sure it's because of their age, but something other than just yelling or throwing your hands up?? I've been told to take a long whip and pop them when they do it, but I'm worried it will just make them want to kick more. Anyone have opinions/solutions?
Re: Updated baby horses, 9 months old.
My mom always carries a long whip and hits their butts or legs when they turn their butts towards her. It dosen;t have to be hard just enough to let them know it is not a good idea to do it, but you ALWAYS have to do it, untill they learn not to. You have some nice horses. They can be a challenge but they sure are worth it!
Re: Updated baby horses, 9 months old.
Thanks for the advice. I think we might have to start doing that. They are getting so big and it's getting more and more dangerous for them to be kicking!

Tora is beautiful, I always wanted a buckskin. She is going to be a big girl too! How big are her parents?

I can't wait till she sheds out this spring! She's gorgeous! The funny thing about it is that her mom is only 15.1 hands and Tora, at 9 months is only about a few inches shorter than her mom. Her dad is maybe 15.3, but as a baby he got really sick and spent the first 4 months of his life in the owner's house. She thinks he's a lot shorter than he should have been because of that. The palomino yearling, Jazzy, has always been quite a bit shorter than Tora and her parents were both 16.1!

Thanks! The paint is my baby. I can't wait for Tora to grow up and fill out in the next few years. She's going to be a stunner! Maybe she's be my wedding horse :D I'd rather Holly, the black mare on the ground, because she's black, but she was ingured pretty bad before we got her and is lame.
