Black And White With Color Pictures
Re: Black And White With Color Pictures
Nice! I do some of those for a nearby wedding photographer. Once you get really good at it folks are willing to pay so they don't have to do the grunt work. :gj:

I love doing these but it's quite tedious.
Here's one I did of Marx for another forum I'm on.

And one from the ride to get him (didn't turn out as well, was shot with a small p&s).

Re: Black And White With Color Pictures
Oooo, can someone tell me how they do this.... If it is photoshop, that is great I have CS3
Re: Black And White With Color Pictures
You put a B&W copy of the picture over the color version of the picture, use the eraser tool and go to town on erasing the B&W off of the color ;) It's super simple!

Re: Black And White With Color Pictures
Here is more detailed instructions oh how to do this in Photoshop.
This is how I did the image above.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS3.
1. Open the picture you would like to use in Photoshop
2. In the "Layer" Drop down menu select "New Adjustment Layer" and the option "Black and White"
3. Make sure you are working on the new layer you have created
4. using the "Pen Tool" Carefully outline the subject you want to be in color.
5. Then right click on the subject you just outlined and select "Make Selection"
(This will give you the "Marching Ants" around the subject)
6. Choose the Eraser tool and go for it. It will only erase the black & White inside the selected area so you don't have to try and stay inside the line.
7. Merge the Black & White layer Down onto the Color layer and then Save.

Amazing job, that snake is gorgeous!!
I probably should have spent more time detailing my explanation, I kind of just assumed people knew how to use PS when I was writing it, and you know what they say about assuming :colbert: :p
Re: Black And White With Color Pictures
Ok...I am a PS newbie...so I had to give this a try. Very cool..Thanks for the trick. Going to try with a reptile pic tomorrow.

It is all good. I actually understood what you said. I just applied the skills I learned on giving your subject a solid background color using Layers. I just thought I would explain it so those who don't already know some of the PS skills could easily learn how to do it.
