breeding while a female is in shed

I have been pairing up lately, and haven't seen any locks yet. My female is currently in shed (all blue today). Is it good/bad/insignificant to pair up while one snake is in shed? or are females more likely to be receptive while in shed?

Sometimes the female can be more receptive... depends on the female though ;)

She should be fine, right after shed is a good time too, leave the shed in there, lots of pheramones(or however you spell it:D)

One of mine is more receptive, one does not seem to be interested at all when in shed, and the other 6 are just as receptive as usual.

thanks, i didnt realize that sheds contained phermones

The Barker's strongly advocate breeding while the female is in shed (not while the male is, however). A combination of her pheromones and possibly her demeanor when in shed can lead to more lock ups even for shy males (Not to mention, when her eyes go blue she can't see the male...so if he's ugly this can work to his favor).

In fact, I have heard experienced breeders say you can JUST breed during females shed cycles and be set. This ties in with Brian at BHB have said, in that you want to get a good lock during each stage of follicle development which are roughly "book-marked" by shed cycles.

and you can clealy see that in one pic one just shed and I left it in there and the other pic the snake is in the process of shedding.

Both are quality locks.

that's very interesting. when my male was in shed, i took him out, just bc I didn't want him to be stressed or whatnot. I hadn't thought about when the female is in shed though, that's why I asked the question. I figure she might be a little more receptive, w/ her eyes being blue, and if not, she's just gonna have to take it :)

Alot of times when the female is in shed it's a perfect time to breed her. They will also breed during other times but alot of breeders swear by breeding during shed cycles as the most likely "lock up" time.

If a female of mine is in shed I'm sure to have a male in with her during that time. Otherwise it's a standard rotation.
