Well I got chomped finally (bite picture attached)
Last night was feeding night for half my crew, Creamsicle my Cornsnake (getting to be a big boy), got a little over anxious I guess....

I have fed him by hand since I got him last March I believe. Went to take the top off his tank, usually he waits until I put the mouse in the tank and wiggle it around then he will come take it.

Nope not tonite, up and out the top before I realized what was going on.... But he missed the mouse and got my other hand instead

Usually his aim is flawless that's why I feed him by hand. I don't trust the Pythons aim, and the Boa is quick as lightning and hits like a freight train! So it's the tongs with them.

He did hit the mouse on the second shot, then was hanging out of the tank trying to eat it :O. My daughter came in and helped gently put him back in the tank and close it up

while I was one handed and bleeding from the other  Lol

Pics of the damage..... Kind of hard to see but he did leave a small bruise, No ER trip required, I think I'll recover pretty quickly

Wonder if I can call out of work due to snake bite today? :D

Well, feeding by hand you were basically asking for it.

Please don't get me wrong on this...

Sicle was the first snake I adopted from the humane society, was kept in terrible conditions when I got him. I have always been able to hold a mouse for him and have him come and get it no issues.

But I guess he's maturing and getting a little aggressive so I will feed him with tongs from now on for his safety and mine.

He's still my buddy, and I hold nothing against him obviously

You're lucky this was a corn snake bite, lol. I have (in the past) fed a few (very calm or young) snakes by hand, but only for a while. As they grow, both their appetite & speed do increase, and it's "asking for it"
mostly because your scent now makes them think of food, and you do NOT want snakes to associate your scent with prey...not if you want a pet you can handle without bites. Feeding by hand is cute, but best
not done. ;) That's another reason feeding tongs are a good idea...because they put some distance between you (your scent) & the food.
