Horn worms

So should hornworms be apart of their diet if you have them along with the roaches and veggies? These horn worms are growing like wild fire and I don’t want them to cocoon themselves before I can feed them off, right now I’m feeding my two dragons Leo and tried my crestie (but didn’t take the last offering) but any insight?

Hornworms are great as treats. This has been my experience even though many websites says they can be used as a stable feeder. For me, I tried that and because they have so much water in them (Good for hydration though), my beardie had more watery poop. Not to mention, they can get expensive. If you feed a few a day, it should be fine. But imo, because they carry so much water in them, I prefer to use them as treats instead so try not feed too much in 1 sitting.

I used to put mine in the fridge for two days to slow down their growth then one day out . And repeat . I never used them as a staple protein though . I used to buy them like once a month

Good treats, but not a staple.

Beardies are smart and can be picky if you give them their favorites too much, they often hold out.

My geckos are a little like that too. They eat Dubai roaches, but prefer mealworms, so I mix it up for them without giving too many mealworms without some Dubai.

Wax worms are gecko crack and I give them maybe every two months as a snack. They would hold out for those guys for sure, but they have little nutritional value.

I give my beardie hornworms, dubias, butterworms, king worms(rarely) and her veggies. I just rotate out the stuff here and there. I do breed dubias so those are the staple insect.

If you can get your hands on some silk worms you should try those for a treat once in a while . Another not I’m not sure if you know this , but wild hornworms that have been feeding on tomato plans are very toxic to animals . I’m sure you wouldn’t feed an insect from outside anyways , but I just figured I’d throw that out there .
