why??

Hi guys,I bought barb tiger fish(6 of them)and they keep on killing each other,i have them in a 5 gallon tank and I only have 4 left.This is the third atempt at these fish and the outcome stays the same.Any advice would be apreciated.

5 gallons? Sounds a little small. At petsmart they say one inch of fish per gallon of water, so you probably shouldn't put in more than that. If I remember correctly barb tiger fish are territorial so they need to be able to have space.

5 gallons is way too small for tiger barbs. Even a 20 gallon might be too small for a school of tiger barbs, it's the bare minimum size.

You need to add more to the school to "thin out" the aggression, at least 8~10 tiger barbs (I'd personally keep 10), the more in the school the better. I'd have them in a 25~30 gallon tank if you want success. Different fish species have different needs and behavior- you need to start your research.

As said before a 5 gal is too small. Get a Betta in there and he will live a great life with tons of space to swim around in. Get some shrimp too, they are lots of fun to watch and help keep the tank clean!

Clarifying that this would mean NOT stocking the betta with the tiger barbs, just the betta and shrimp in the 5 gal. :O LOL

20 gallon is the bare minimum for a colony of 6 since they say do no less than 6 and you have like 8, so definitely consider getting something even bigger than a 20 gallon.
