Kuzco's heading back into shed again. His last two sheds have come earlier than normal -- he used to shed every three months like clockwork, but his last shed came in at a little over two months, and it hasn't quite been two months this time. Not sure how I feel about that.

He has jumped up to small mice this year, though, so that may have something to do with it. I've heard that snakes will have growth spurts when they bump up to said feeder size, and I think that may be what's going on here. He certainly seems to have grown the past few months...

Kuzco’s a good looking boa. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the slightly more frequent sheds recently. I looked over my boas shed records the last couple years and they both increased in frequency during the warmer months that coincided with heavier feeding and decreased in the cooler months. You’re certainly doing very well by them both. Cheers!

I wouldn't be concerned either, once there food is increased its surprising how much growth they put on. its bound to bring on a closer shed cycle as the girth and length increase
    Looking great by the way

Thanks y'all. That does make me feel a little better. Guess I'm just not used to having a baby go through this intense of a growth spurt, haha.

Kuzco definitely seems to be feeling fine. He's in shed, had a substantial meal less than a week ago, and already stalking the floor for food! Pretty sure an approaching storm system has him riled up -- out of all my snakes, he seems the most in tune with the weather.

More frequent shed could also easily be because he damaged his scales somehow as shedding is a mean to fix damages to skin too ... I'd really wouldn't worry.

I'd start to worry if they stop shedding, pooping or moving :)

Celebrating Kuzco's second birthday a bit late with a perfect shed! I actually caught him in the act this time, haha.

Tangentially, his mom (Jasmine) just dropped her new litter yesterday. Talk about consistency!

Kuzco is looking spectacular, WrongPython. Between the pics from you and Richard, I've definitely been feeling steadily more tempted to eventually get a longicauda as well ...

Another summer growth spurt shed in the books for Kuzco! The "feed them a mix of stuff when they're hungry, within reason" feeding regimen seems to be working for him, too. The mix of day-old quail and small mice yielded some nice, consistent growth and sustained good body condition. It looks like the MegaBlend Reptilinks will start getting worked into the mix -- he was finally large enough to try one the other night, and it was taken with gusto!
