    Wrinkly baby short tail
Hi! I very recently purchased my first medium-sized python- a borneo short tail. He came from dynasty reptiles, a breeder I'm familiar with and had purchased from in the past.

He came in about 4 days ago- I've been doing the right thing by leaving him alone but I can't help but be concerned over this one odd thing. He's super wrinkly. He doesnt appear to be in shed to me- he has more of an emaciated look to me. But his care sheet I have been given said he had last eaten 7/24. Is this just a hatchling snake thing I wasnt aware of? Hes really young- hatch date 6/11/2020.

I keep his humidity high, he isnt kept extremely warm. (like 85ish) have yet to feed him since he has only just arrived in my home. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...802-WA0000.jpg

Is he drinking? That wrinkly and even 'caved-in' appearance looks like dehydration to me. These are heavy-bodied snakes, and I even wonder if he actually did eat on the 24th and/or if he has missed meals before that.

I've given him a water dish of course, but havent visibly seen him drink, no. I could try a soak though? I just don't wanna stress the lil guy with too much handling.

I agree with not stressing him, but I am not experienced with Borneo Short-tails, so if someone with more hands-on experience with them recommends soaking I'd definitely follow their guidance. When you do offer a meal, you might (if you are offering F/T) soak it in water and/or inject a few cc's of water under the rodent's skin. Other than that, I'd just keep his husbandry conditions steady and be sure he always has fresh water available.

He's not in scary-bad condition, but I can definitely see why you're concerned.

I shot the breeder an email in hopes they can offer more info on him and this condition. The food is a good idea though, I'll keep it in mind.

85 should be your hot spot, should be ambient around 80, humidity doesn't need to be crazy high, 60% is good ime and too much can make them look wrinkly also but I'm not sure what the issue is from the picture, kind of wondering if this snake hasn't had it's first shed yet given the age.

It sounds like I'm doing everything right then in terms of temps and humidity. Breeder suggested I give him a soak and he did seem to get less wrinkled. I plan on leaving him alone now
