Female that recently laid??

I have had 2 females drop eggs for me this year the first layed 9 eggs the second smaller female laid 6. But the first female laid her clutch and i got her strait back on food shes now pounding a adult rat every week! The other female however i can't get her back on to feeding! Not usually a worry in bps however she dropped her clutch on the 22nd of may so lost a lot of weight and still refusing meals? Make sure to clean her enclsure well, aswell as her remove the "scent" of eggs, even use a new tub on her thats always been the trick for me

Does she move, or does she just sit in that coil? Did you rinse her? How thoroughly did you scrub down her cage? Like, all of her cage? Walls, floor, ceiling, new water dish, new substrate (does she have substrate?) . . . everything? Have you tried sticking her in a different cage? Has she shed yet?

Different females seem to have different levels of maternal instinct. Some, you can take straight off eggs and place in a new tub, and the mom program clicks off like a flipping a switch. Some need more work and more time. Every once in a while, a female will go 60 days on imaginary eggs no matter what you do.

I try not to worry about not eating unless a female is actively losing weight on top of the weight she lost laying. If she is still in her same tub that she laid in, can you try moving her to a different one in a different slot? If she hasn't shed yet, you can try moving her immediately after she sheds -- or take the opportunity to scrub down the cage, then offer her a smaller than normal prey. Even down to a weanling, if you have any.

Everything was washed dwn thoroughly and she shed on Sunday but still refusing food i will try the tub change!

I would say 95+% of my females will eat right after egg laying if everything is cleaned well; however, there always seems to be one that refuses no matter what I do. When this has happened they always seem to start eating within a week or so after their eggs hatch even though their eggs were taken away and incubated separately.

Yes clean her up good,and give her a little time. She should be fine. Some of my females take a little time to eat as well. I find that if I move the female to a new tub. As well as to a new location in the rack seems to help as well.

After you clean the enclosure really well or switch tubs. Rinse her off really well also and paper towel dry her . When you set up the enclosure put a hide in the tub as well with a couple of handfuls of 100% cypress mulch in the hide. Give her about 3 days to reorient and offer the meal. Let us know. I have the same problem with my one females after j cleaned her cage and bathed her and I start them back with asf rats if they won't take normals and usually after about 3 or 4 I'll try a normal rat and they will take it

We have had the whole range. We have had some girls eat the next day and some up to a month after they lay. Some will wait until after a shed, others will eat a few days after their cage has been cleaned.

Still not eating!!
