I use to live next to a Chicken farm many years ago in Denton, TX. They would sell eggs on the honor system. You would go to the shack and pick what size you wanted and prices were listed. Then place your cash in a drop box.

This place was not too far from the Universities. Things got pretty political with the Shaw of Iran and the Middle Eastern students started stealing the eggs to use in protests.

Well, that put an end to our farm fresh eggs.

There's just nothing like eating good fresh eggs, as you know, :)

Fantastic! What breed(s) gave you the green eggs? I'm a brand new chicken owner, been raising 2 Rhode Island Red and 2 Dominique pullets since they were chicks. I'm pretty sure both breeds are brown eggers though. Watching chickens in the yard is far more entertaining and relaxing than television!

I believe they are Rhodes but not sure and I will ask the Lady who ordered them the chickens are beautiful some have feathers all around the top of the head that look like fancy hat's I call those the Rock Star Chickens.[emoji15]

There are multiple varieties of "top hat" chicken - IIRC (its been a while), there is the Polish and Houdan.
The silkie is a banty with an unusual texture to its feathers making them look more like fur. It does have some extra fluff on top.

Lots of beautiful chickens out there. My current collection could use some new blood (I'm looking at the Silver Dorking for next year), and some culling. My elderly Cochin banties have escaped the soup pot even though seldom lay anymore. They are friendly and cute. Not the case for the prolific Barred Rocks (I must have a bad strain) - good winter layers, but aggressive birds. Unexpected, because one of my favourite chickens appeared to be a Barred Rock. She came to us nearly naked of feathers - a neighbour found her. I kept her in a dog crate for a while to get her strength up. She passed away a couple of years ago - RIP, Vivian.

The description combined with the blue and green eggs, along with the current boom in their popularity makes the deduction of silkies pretty plausible, which is why I settled on silkie. :-)

Not arguing, but banties lay banty-sized eggs, about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of a regular hen egg. As far as I know (could be wrong) the silkie is a true banty - never heard of a standard size version. Full size green eggs are usually attributed to "Easter Eggers." There is an Aerocana, and a variety McMurry hatchery sells as an Ameroaucana (spell?). It is not really a breed, and memory fails me, but I tried to straighten out this conflicting information a few years ago - there is a lot of confusion. I used to have a blue egg layer (lovely powder blue), and an olive green egg layer a few years ago. As far as I could tell from the research, both were "mutts." The hatcheries have been mixing the original aurocana breed (spell?) to get brighter hues in the eggs.
