Any news on your beardie-girl? I saw a couple of responses in the other forum, I wish there was more out there to help y'all. Seems like this is a bit of a mystery.

Thanks Hilabeans, we are actually pretty sure after some responses and a bunch of research that it may be gout. We are waiting on the breeder and a few other breeders to get back to us with their thoughts. We went away for an extended weekend vacation and when we came back she actually seems to be doing a lot better, more active and mobile etc. but still definitely puffy so it's odd. Appreciate you reaching out, and will definitely keep you updated <3

Thanks so much. Actually, I was on vacation not far from your neck of the woods, we were in Austin. Probably my favorite city in the US

Ah yes - just up the road from me! Austin is loads of fun. Great food and music, endless hipsters and mind-numbing traffic. Their motto is “Keep Austin Weird”, whereas my hometown is “Keep San Antonio Lame”.

Lol - I’d argue being lame actually makes you a little more authentically cool, but I digress...

Definitely my kinda scene. And mind-numbing traffic? I live in New York lol, it was actually a relief!

Definitely sounds like gout to me. Especially given the blood work results. What kind of UVB light are you using and how close can she get to it? Sometimes inadequate UVB can contribute to some of the symptoms you are seeing.

We are using the reptisun 10.0 tube, her basking spot is about 12" from the light

Hey guys, just wanted to give you an update on my girlfriends beardie Bitsy.

She is slowly getting a little better, a bit more active but still limited mobility and requires hand feeding of liquid carefood twice a day. We have been speaking to a few breeders, vets, and experts, and were getting multiple varying thoughts and opinions on what it could be. It was a tough decision, however she decided that it was ultimately becoming too financially and emotionally draining for her to continue caring for this girl. We found someone local who has a lot of experience caring for sick reptiles, and after considerable research and vetting we rehomed her to him yesterday. It was really difficult for her (and me as well), but we are really happy that Bitsy is with someone who has the means and experience to give her the special care and attention she needs on a daily basis.

Thank you all for your support and advice <3

You did a wonderful thing and you didn't quit on her. It's important to know your limits and LISTEN to your inner voice. I hope she is able to fully recover in her new home and you guys should be proud of all you did for her.
