Is melamine worth it for temp cage
    Good day,

My adult male BP is in a 40g glass tank. I’d like to build a temporary enclosure that will last a year. PVC is not available in my area, and I just don’t want to wait for an AP enclosure right now. Temps in my house are stable at 75 year round. I’ll be ordering a RHP for heating. I’m in AZ so humidity is always an issue with glass.

Would melamine be appropriate? I’m aware of the water issue with the seams, and will work that out. I have the tools necessary and I’m going to do a basic hinged door with frame and plexiglass with basic window locks. It doesn’t have to look “professional.” Just functional.

I just want a cage with more floor space and less height. Melamine is available and affordable for me. I’ll order the pvc cage around Xmas.

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't, I would just wait and order AP. A male in a 40g should be fine until you can buy a bigger one, especially if it's around xmas. Last I checked they had "quick ship" T8's (48"x24"x12") so the wait wouldn't be bad if you went with that size.

If you really want away from glass ASAP, I would find a long underbed sweater tub or xmas tree tub, drill some air holes, and get some straps to secure the lid on. UTH (with thermostat) should be plenty to heat it, you don't want to use CHE or heat lamps on a tub.

www.Blackboxcages.com has about a 2 week lead time as of 8/20/21. If you order AP expect to wait close to a year. Even the quicker ship items are taking 3-4months+.

I wouldn't put the effort and money into it. Like mentioned above the snake is fine in what it is in. My female Ball is in a 40gal tank and is just fine. I would save the money and put it into the cage you want to buy, maybe add some extras.

At a steady 75 I just don't see the reasoning. If you want to add a few degrees to the glass put some thick art type paper on the back and sides.
