i was cleaning out an outside turtle tank that im not using anymore (still had water in it with a bunch of larva in it...i kept some :) ) and i noticed a little bug climbing on a lawn chair. i was lucky that it started moving when it did... it was a little tiny praying mantis. i named it frank. haha

Do they change colors or something? I once caught a big green one when I was young. I tried to feed a night crawler to it. The slime from the worm covered it's mouth and suffocated it to death....

I believe if you just leave a peeled banana outside you can get a culture of fruit flies.

You can actually eat the banana and put the peel in a jar with holes in the lid and grow your own fruitflies, but they will almost definitely be winged, unlike the wingless ones at the store.

Hey, I've got a picture of one of those! It was living outside my front door for a couple of days before I found him dead on my doorstep. :(

Anyway, I named it Zorak. Anyone seen Spaceghost Coast to Coast?

Please remember to check your local laws on wild catching certain species of animals.
