    How cold for freezing?
How cold should my rats be frozen at? Looking at buying my second freezer in less than a year and the one I am eyeing is rated at about 12 degrees Fahrenheit. My last one reached about -6 but only lasted 4 months. Bought it off Amazon and got zero after sales support. Going local and this is what I found: Danby 3.8 cubic foot chest freezer. $199 and would receive it by Friday. 1 year warrant.

I've always heard that zero is optimal for frozen food, including feeders. No idea if 12* would actually "matter", as they'd still be frozen.

I have had this exact freezer https://www.homedepot.com/p/Magic-Ch...35W3/305468701 for my feeders for 13 years now and never gave me any trouble.

No idea how low it does just know it works.

I also wonder where they measure the temperature at (ie. if there are any regulations about it?) because it's likely to be lower at the bottom of a freezer* than it is on
the top shelf. (*mine is zero on the bottom, fyi it's a Kenmore that I've had for 8 years, no breakdowns ever.) Now I'm wondering what my top shelf is...?

Thank you for the suggestion on the freezer Deborah, unfortunately it’s not in stock nearby. I did get a freezer rated at -10 F and the extended warranty was pretty cheap. Not the Danby I originally mentioned but it was a little cheaper and a little smaller. Paying $5.25 per live rat is crazy compared to about $2 for a frozen so seems like a no brainer. Maybe 12 F is good but sub zero seams better.
