I'll say it again, Olive's are such an underrated species. Talk about a big snake that's laid back, ALWAYS eats, and is easy and fun to handle. Nigel shed today so I had to get a few quick pics.

Olives are definitely on my bucket list. Nigel looks so cool!

Do you think they would be a "good" first big snake? Or would it be better to go with boa?

That’s a very good/tough question R4L. I went with the olive first because I wanted a snake that wasn’t as popular as some others. Lots more people keep retics, burms, and boas. There’s not nearly as many olives in the hobby and that really intrigued me. After getting into boas they quickly became one of my favorite snakes. My boas are a lot smaller than my olive right now. I believe they’ll be more heavier bodied than the olive as adults, but the BCO does have the potential to reach 8-10 ft. Temperamentally they’re very similar, really mellow and fun to handle, but they each have a very strong food drive. I can pick any of them up without using a hook first if I wanted but I don’t. I really can’t say which would make a “better” first big snake. IMO it’s a draw! :)

Nigel looks fantastic Ziggy! I’ve been hoping that you would post soon. He looks heavier than Olivia and he has a much larger head. I realize that he is a year older as well.

Tapatalk has totally fubared their picture posting process, otherwise I was going to post a recent photo.

Olivia rarely wants to come out of her cage and I don’t dare force her or I’ll suffer the wrath of TEETH!

I estimate her between 6-6.5 feet now. I weighed her at 10 pounds a few days ago.

    Thanks for the pics!
