    Scored a free cage!
I have been breeding these for awhile, and it's near-free snake food. I spend $4 a month for a huge bag of wood shavings, and perhaps $5 a month on a bag of rat feed blocks. It'd cost me more to buy rats at the pet store for one week!
First tank holds a pregnant female. Second has the weanlings from the rat in the third tank's last litter; the male's in her tank now. ;) I clean them weekly and it takes 5 minutes. Water-filled fabric softener bottles and a rubbermaid housing my tiger salamander hold the screen lid closed!

It's pretty simple. As long as ya keep the cages clean every week, they never get so dirty as to be disgusting. I throw in some food in the morning, fill water bottles every other day, and that's all really.
