How Do You Make Extra $$$?

So now that I m expanding with reptiles the prices are jumping from food all the way to caging. I am just wondering how do you make extra money to help benefit the better for your reptiles?

Dont think about making extra money think about how to get by by spending less.
Buying rats to feed your snakes frozen or live is expensive.
Breed your own.
Cost of rat food is cheap if bought at feed stores in 50 pound bags.
I spend about 20 bucks per 50 pound bag and that lats a long time.

The most expensive thing i buy is Aspen bedding. I get it at tractor supply company at 10 bucks a bag. I use it for all my pets.
If you want to go cheaper there is Equine Fresh pet bedding. I have never used it myself but i heard its ok for reptiles and rodents.

Also build your own racks. They dont have to be pretty they have to be functional.

I don't make any more than my regular paycheck. If I want to add another animal, or need to buy new equipment, I set money aside from my paycheck until I have that money to purchase what I want or need. That means more packed lunches, and less going out to eat with co-workers, less buying some things because I want them, rather than NEED them.

What's hard for some folks is the need to get something (usually an animal) right NOW, rather than delaying gratification until they can really afford it (ie, have proper housing set up).

Trust me, if you have to work hard to save money for what you want, you are going to appreciate it so much more.

One thing that I'm going to be doing in about 2 weeks is I have been contacted by a local model for a photo shoot, "hiring" a few of my animals.

For 2 hours of time, I'm getting paid $50. I'm taking about 4 animals with me to minimize the stress level of any one animal.

If this shoot goes well, she has other model friends who want to do some shoots with snakes that she plans to refer me to.

None of the animals slated for breeding this season will be used, as I don't want to put any un-due stress on them.

And of course, I need to see how this first shoot goes and see how the animals do. Their health and well-being is and always will be my priority.

There is... other stuff... someone can sell... at um... herrmm..... banks?...

I put adds on craigslist for general labor and Ill cut grass and do yardwork and concrete work , landscaping and digging ditches for cable lines.

I honestly couldn't tell you...I was younger and it was a family friend who asked me if I wanted to participate in a study they were doing, it was with IBM and to see how user friendly some websites and software were to older teenagers.

I saw some commercials on tv a couple months ago about participating in the studies. I'm sure with a little research you could find it in a nearby city. Once I was at the mall and I got five bucks to look at some pictures on a computer and tell them which ones I though were "designer" jeans and which were more like jc penny or kohls style (which I will always stick by :)) Took about 15 minutes

Work for it. Get a job, get a second job, cut grass, day labor, save save save...

I would haul hay, get short jobs plowing or bailing for people, do a remodeling job on a house, or paint a house for someone. Anything I could do to make a buck if I needed or wanted something. If it did not pay enough I would do the job and just save the cash and do more work.

When I was living at home was the easiest time for me to save. No rent, no real food bill, no utilities... When I got out on my own it was harder, but I was still able to do it.

I can not identify with the "want it now" attitudes today. Not saying you are like that, but I save whatever I can to get the things I want. When people come to my house they always think I make a lot of money because I have a lot of high dollar things but I hardly make a dime. I just know how to save and how to work extra for what I want.

I fix computers or work on friends cars when I have time and that pays me pretty good.

how much money do you get for doing that??

Snakes are my extra money. They pay for my overhead and additional snake purchases. I pay my bills with the money made from my full-time job.

Yeah. One time I got this random thing like in the mail... They wanted to test my spit or something so all i had to do was spit in a cup and they gave me $50 for it. :D
