Loaning out my male
So this year, I'm hoping to pair up 3 females. My husband's co-worker wants to borrow my male pastel to breed to his pastel female. My male will be going to him, so I will be breeding my pastel to one of my normals until he's ready for my pastel to start pairing with his pastel. Then I will be breeding my spider to that same normal.
So since my male is going to him, I thought a good "stud fee" would be to get one of the babies. 2nd pick of the clutch, so he could have first pick. So lets say the morph gods are smiling upon this clutch (if we even get a clutch) and we get two supers, would it be too much to ask for one of the supers? Now, even if he gets all normals, I still want a baby, but let just say in a perfect world we get good odds.

Dang.....got any other morphs you want to stud out?
I've got a couple of girls just about ready to go.

Re: Loaning out my male
i think if two supers are produced you should be able to get one...im doing something similar with my cousins husband he has two big normal females and i have a spider..and our agreement is half and half

Re: Loaning out my male
Well I figured since he was going to house my male and incubate and such, he's doing all the work. Would it still be ok to ask for a 50/50 split of the clutch?
Wilomn, I have 3 males in total. Pastel, Spider, and a 100% het. pied normal.

Re: Loaning out my male
you can ask but its basically a agreement between the two of you, i guess its easier for me due to the fact that im dealing with family

Re: Loaning out my male
If there are two supers(or more), you should definately get one. Best of luck!

Re: Loaning out my male
Do you think it would be fair of me to ask for a 50/50 split. His female is definitely worth more than my male and he'll be doing the housing and incubation.
I will also be doing a breeding loan with this same male with my friend next year. We are breeding him to her spider in hopes of Bumblebees. I think I will be doing the housing and incubation for this breeding.

Re: Loaning out my male
oh man, i remember thinking about doing this sometime down the road, but i get so caught up in thinking about wuts fair or not LOL so i decided it would be too awkward for me to ask LOL. never thought about it again until i saw this post =p.
honestly, i think it should be 50/50
since hes housing and incubating for this potential clutch, and ur gonna house and incubate for the next potential clutch, u should split, given the odds gods grace u with their presence =p

i say 50/50 also, you each put a snake into it, hes hosting so he gets first pick. Thats just how i think it should go

Re: Loaning out my male
i let the person doing the work call the deal,as long as its agreeable,my deal alst year was sending a normal girl to a guy to breed to a lesser,he kept normals, and POL of the lessers,i get the rest of the lessers,,,we got 3 good eggs,,and 3 normals,,that sucked, but when we do studs to other peoples animals,it varies, ususally we just do pick of the litter even if its us doing the work, less for us to deal with once babies hatch out,we are doing our mojave male to a friends normal female this year, and we taking POL,giving him the rest...it all depends on whats most comfortable for you and the person entering the agreement

Re: Loaning out my male
IMO it should be 75/25 split, since he is doing all the housing, incubating, and he has the more valuable female. If you paid for 50/50 of the equipment it should be 50/50 but honestly you are really doing nothing and didnt even help fund it.
Bottom line, if it were me, it should be a 75/25 split and he gets the first pick

Re: Loaning out my male
With this breeding loan, I'm going to just ask for a single hatchling. 2nd pick of the clutch. He can have first pick, then I get 2nd pick and then he gets the rest of the clutch.
Now, with my other friend (these are two separate people in two separate seasons) since I will be housing the female and doing the incubation, I'm going to request we have a 50/50 split of the clutch, giving her first pick since it is her female.

Re: Loaning out my male
I think your plan of second pick is fair. Your male is not really worth nearly as much as his female so I think any more than that would be asking too much. Otherwise your friend would be better off just buying his own yearling male.

Agreed!!! asking anything over 2nd or even 3rd pick is too much. Best wishes!!!

Re: Loaning out my male
If he hit on two super pastels in the clutch - you'd be getting a heck of deal on second pick of the clutch, which would obviously be a super pastel. You can get quality breeder-size pastel males for under $200...it'd basically be like giving away a super pastel for the cost of a male breeder sized pastel.
Not the best deal on his end...great deal for you if the odds are good.
Just hope he doesn't read this thread ;)

Yep, personally I think the guy is pretty stupid for wanting to do the loan and giving away any of his females clutch. He'll be kicking himself if he hits 2 supers, but I guess money is tight for a lot of people now so a couple hundred dollars to buy his own male may be too much. Do you trust the guy enough that he would tell you if he hit two supers? Good luck Jay, I hope it works out for you.

Re: Loaning out my male
Hmm, I guess you guys are right. It would be a kick in the pants for him to have to give up a super pastel if he got two. Well since I wasn't even planning on loaning him out until about a month ago, I think I'm just going to ask for a female pastel if he gets any. That is what I wanted out of pairing him with my normal girl, so maybe I'll just ask for a pastel female. That seems fair. He has the more expensive snake and he'll be doing all the work. Its not fair of me to ask for a super pastel like that. :P

That's a great fee- for the other guy. It's common practice to SPLIT the clutch & the morph guy gets 1st pick. If you both have morphs, the guy with the female picks first, then you 2nd, him 3rd & so on.
Whatever you decide, be clear & best to put it in writing so you stay friends through the whole thing.
