BP Swallowed a thermometer
I went to change my 6yo female ball python's water and found that she had a thermometer probe about 18 inches down her throat. I didn't want to pull on it and risk hurting her so I called my local exotic vet but since it was after hours no one answered. While I was calling the vet my dad managed to remove the probe but it was missing a small suction cup that was attached to the cable. I dont know how she removed it from the cable but I think she may have swallowed it.
I'm gonna call the vet in the morning and probably take her in to get checked out.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? is there anything I should worry about for now?
also this is my first time posting

First off ... Welcome !!!
Secondly, where in WA are you and who is your vet? If you are in the southend, the Sumner Vet Hospital is open 24/7 for emergencies. They are pretty reasonable in price too. $78 for a ER exam is what I paid when I had to take my lizard in.
Good luck :) and keep us posted.

Re: BP Swallowed a thermometer
Wow that is crazy! I would think they could see the suction cup with an xray maybe?
Hope your guy is ok.

Use only a dab, so it's easy to pop off when you need to clean the enclosure.
Re: BP Swallowed a thermometer
wow i never ever thought that would happen. good luck with that!!
Re: BP Swallowed a thermometer
I don't believe their stomach acid can dissolve rubber, but if she did swallow it, seeing as she is 6 years old I don't think she would have a problem passing it.

:O omg :O Talk about cotton mouth lol.;)
Re: BP Swallowed a thermometer
I would think she should be able to pass it... not much a vet can do about it.
Re: BP Swallowed a thermometer
Hopefully it will pass without causing impaction... Good Luck and Welcome to the forum...

I wouldn't waste my money going to a vet. All they are going to do is charge you for a visit and tell you to see if it passes. How large of a suction cup was it? Unless it's very large I wouldn't worry too much and just keep an eye out for it. If the bottom half of the snake starts to swell then it would be time to go to the vet.
